What is Radiesse used for?

Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler that replaces lost volume in sagging skin, minimizes wrinkles, and restores a fuller, more youthful appearance. The loosening of the plump, taut skin associated with youth can be a genuine loss, and may cause you to feel unhappy with your appearance. You may benefit from Radiesse if you experience:

Moderate to deep facial wrinkling

Radiesse is a longer-lasting intervention that goes farther than most other injectable treatments. A common target site is the nasolabial folds, the creases that extend from the sides of your nose to the corners of your lips. As we get older, decreased collagen in the skin causes it to lose some of its elasticity, making these creases and folds more pronounced. Radiesse is an effective product to minimize this effect.

Lost tissue volume on the backs of the hands

Because the skin on the backs of our hands is so thin, it is often among the first areas in our bodies to start showing the signs of age. Even minimal fat loss in the hands can cause a dramatic change in appearance: veins become prominent, hands appear bony, and the skin can tear and discolor more easily. Fortunately, Radiesse has been approved for use in hands, taking years of the appearance of your hands by restoring lost tissue volume.

How Radiesse Works

Radiesse is a unique dermal filler option, as it is the only FDA-approved filler than relies on Calcium Hydroxylapatite, a substance that naturally occurs in our bones. Tiny spheres of this mineral are suspended in a water-based gel that is then injected under the surface of the skin, where the calcium hydroxylapatite stimulates the natural production of collagen.

Over time, the gel and calcium particles are reabsorbed into the body, leaving behind the newly-produced collagen to restore structure and tissue volume. As Radiesse stimulates new tissue production, rather relying on the gel itself to provide and maintain tissue volume alone, it is longer lasting than other dermal fillers composed of hyaluronic acid, and can be used to treat deeper wrinkles and areas of more severe tissue loss.
