Gynecomastia a condition affecting men and boys caused by an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone. With this condition, one or both of a man’s breasts becomes abnormally enlarged. Symptoms of gynecomastia may include breast tenderness and even milk secretions from the breasts.

Abnormal breast enlargement is a common condition among middle-aged men. However, knowing that it is common does not change the way it affects your appearance or eliminate the embarrassment, self-consciousness, and lowered self-esteem gynecomastia can cause.

Medical or natural weight loss and hormone therapy options can help treat gynecomastia at the source, but the patient may still be left with excess, sagging breast tissue. At Sinclair Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills and Whittier, Dr. Sinclair can perform a gynecomastia procedure to reduce femininely oversized, sagging male breasts.

Liposuction treatment

Recent advances in liposuction technology have made it possible for surgeons to treat a number of gynecomastia patients with liposuction as an alternative to tissue excision. Modern liposuction techniques are less invasive than traditional liposuction. However, surgical skill still plays an important role in the success of the treatment.

Liposuction for gynecomastia is typically performed with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, or under general anesthesia. Incisions are typically made in the armpit or along the top portion of the edge of the areola. Through these incisions, the surgeon uses liposuction to remove excess fat and glandular tissue and to sculpt more masculine and natural looking chest contours.

Gynecomastia surgery procedure

Male breast reduction is the most effective treatment for gynecomastia. In this procedure, the surgeon removes excess glandular tissue and fat to create more masculine contours and a firmer, flatter chest.

With surgical tissue excision, the surgeon can remove excess skin, which cannot be accomplished with liposuction, and remove more glandular tissue than can be removed with liposuction. This is the only effective procedure to correct stretched and sagging skin around the breasts. Excision is also necessary to reduce the size of the areola or to reposition the nipple for a more masculine appearance.

Incisions for gynecomastia surgery are typically located around the top edge of the areola or in the natural creases of the chest. When Dr. Sinclair is performing this procedure, he will take care to place the incisions for the most inconspicuous scarring possible.

PRACTICE POLICY UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update

Updated - June 26th 2020

The COVID-19 epidemic has created unprecedented circumstances for our community. Our practice has been paying close attention to the guidelines put in place by the government and

With this in mind, we are offering virtual consultations to patients via face time, however, face-to-face in-office consultation are still available. We are still seeing post-operative patients and patients requiring ongoing treatments. To schedule, a virtual consultation or in-office consultation call our office.

Please know that we are constantly updating our services and staffing according to the local and national recommendations and doing our part to make sure that you are protected

  • We continue to exercise all the latest recommendations that are handed down by the CDC. Our preventative measures include:
  • Fully training all staff members to understand the disease process and its modes of transmission.
  • Appointments will be staggered to avoid congestion in the waiting room.
  • Checking temperatures of every patient that comes into the office.
  • Asking all staff, vendors and ancillary personnel to refrain from coming to the office if they have any signs or symptoms of a cold or an upper respiratory tract infection.
  • Asking every patient to refrain from coming to the office if they have any symptoms and inquiring about any pertinent travel history.
  • Hand-washing, as this continues to be the most important mode of prevention.
  • Although it is something that we have always constantly done, we are now doing so with heightened vigilance and attention.
  • Constantly sanitizing all surfaces (which we have always done as an accredited facility).

However, we have now increased this routine and are wiping down all surfaces, desks, door handles, keyboards and restroom facilities multiple times each day.

Although Covid-19 is a serious issue, we strongly believe that it will pass and hopefully make our infrastructure and our ability to deal with pandemics in this country even better than it currently is. We are closely monitoring this situation on a real-time basis and will update our practice’s guidelines as needed to protect our patients.
